Still Don’t Know What I Did Last Summer.

This summer was something like a whirlwind of new faces, places and ideas and conflicts. I don’t know if I can figure out where to start. There really was almost too much and I know right now I am regretting not writing more of it down as it happened.
For starters, KFTC is now (nearly) in town, which makes me very happy and I hope to add my efforts to the pool of Bowling Green folks.
Meredith and I also had the extreme pleasure of taking a trip with some good friends to the Highlander 75th anniversary celebration just outside of Knoxville, TN. And again, I find myself struggling with the idea of trying to explain the time I had. Without being dramatic, it was something like life changing, or perhaps more like life defining. I do feel as though I left having discovered a great chunk of myself there.
The Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame was held this August in Covington and we also had a great time there with the folks from the Kentucky Civil Rights Commission and Kentucky Remembers. (More on Kentucky Remembers in the future, guaranteed.) I got to be stage hand. Lots of fun and similarly inspirational.
On top of all that, we have finally found our local health food/grocery store, the Nutrition Center. This town is now complete. Between the farmer’s market and the Nutrition Center we can pretty much exist without (almost) ever setting foot into a Wal-Mart or Krogers. We marked Wal-Mart off of the list years ago, but Krogers filled many of our packaged organic foods needs for a while. Now we can get most of those items at the Nutrition Center and keep that much more money local. I’m hoping it turns co-op soon. We’ll see. The problem still remains, though, on how to keep it up on a tight budget.
Also in the future: Fighting Racism in Bowling Green, Environmental Justice in Bowling Green, and on being a student in Bowling Green.
I’m also cooking up a new podcast episode. It’s been a while. Keep an eye out. I’m thinking video, with sparkles.
For your viewing pleasure I’ve included some video below from the Highlander Center celebration.
