Smart Phone, Stupid Software

Just have to rant here for a moment with a post that will be more or less out of place on this blog. As many of my friends know, I’m totally ADD. For those of you who don’t, yes, I do have ADD, minus the hyperactivity, plus the inattentive. (Think: daydreamy, has trouble starting/finishing tasks. Not bouncing off the walls and interrupting people.) So, I’m always looking for ways to help my self get and stay organized and on task.
Many folks like me try to make use of their natural affinity for gadgets and technology to take steps to keep organized. That is one reason I bought the Palm Centro recently.
I also purchased it as an “I’ve put up long enough with my glitchy Motorola Razr for long enough” purchase, (and to make working the overnight shift at WalMart hurt a little less.) I was told this would be a good purchase for the Mac user, as well. I would be able to keep my contacts, to-do’s, a little music, perhaps some video synced between my Mac and the phone, easy as pie. But it turns out the software that is supposed do all this sucks, sucks, sucks. I’d heard good things about a bit of shareware called Missing Sync available for $39.99 for sufferers like me. I downloaded it and all too soon reached the end of my free (and very satisfactory) trial run with Missing Sync.
So, because of my somewhat economic hardships with little to no design work (or any work for that matter) ’round these parts, and my initial refusal to purchase more than I was supposed to have had to, I am now working with a phone that is somewhat smart, but depends on stupid software to be a helpful tool. My question to my self now is, do I purchase the software that is pretty good but I shouldn’t have had to pay for, or do I nag the people at Palm until they give me a sufficient answer to my problem. Their software, HotSync, plain sucks. And I’m miffed about it.

Hadn’t seen that one. Unfortunately in this case, the Centro runs Palm OS, and not Windows Mobile. Hmmm…
