Did Social Justice Take Conservatives by Surprise?

15 December 2008 No Comment Written by: Bryan Moats

picture-2I came across an entry today on the conservative news site Right Side News that surprised me, in fact. It stated that many young Christian voters felt personally lead to vote for the Democratic candidates this year based on the social justice issues pertinent to those candidates – issues that, as it turns out, outranked the traditional hot issues for young conservatives such as abortion. I tried to follow the various polls leading up to the election this year but didn’t catch it all. So my question is, did the Republican pulse takers miss the obvious? I remember the scoffing of Palin and Guilliani at the RNC, the sneering at community organizers and their ilk. But I had not realized that even Republican youth knew their candidates were falling short of the nation’s needs in terms of social justice issues.

After looking into it, I’m coming up with mixed levels of enthusiasm among the conservative blogosphere. Some are ready to find out just what “Social Justice” means now and what it means to young voters. Others are still trying to keep up the demonization by equating it with the ever-so-scary Socialism.

Any experience out there? What has your experience been?
