Recently a man in Columbus, Ohio robbed a bank of $80. He then handed the envelope of cash to the security gaurd and waited to be taken to jail. This Wednesday in court he requested that he be sentenced to a term of three years, which will be the amount of time it takes for his social security to kick in.

He had recently lost his job as a delivery man for a drug wholesaler. At his age, 63 years old, anything above minimum wage can be hard to find if your qualifications are bleak. He was afraid that he would not be able to make it until he was eligable for social security, in three years. After being found competant the judge obliged the very non-defensive defendant and sentenced him to a convenient three years. Prosecutor Dan Cable said this, “It’s not the financial plan I would choose, but it’s a financial plan.”
