Youth contingent at UFPJ conference

Last month, on June 22-24, I drove up to Chicago with my friend CJ to take part in the 3rd National assembly of United for Peace and Justice (the largest national anti-war coalition). We went there as delegates from the Omni Center for Peace Justice & Ecology, a local Fayetteville Group. Over 300 people attended representing around 200 groups. I had a lot of fun, I learned a lot – on the whole, it was an important experience for me. I met many people working in independent local groups around the country.

While I was there, I attended a few workshops on the subject of strategy for movement building. Here is a webcast I made explaining a tool called “Spectrum of Allies.”

I was introduced to an excellent book called Doing Democracy by Bill Moyer (not Bill Moyers of PBS). Moyer developed a very interesting practical strategic model called Movement Action Plan which describes how social movements work. Very interesting stuff! Read more here (pdf).
